Writing Guidelines
Citations
Eye on Science is primarily an online publication. With this in mind, we only use hyperlinked, in-text citations. Please insert all sources you reference in one of the following two ways:
You could add a hyperlink over the piece of text you specifically referenced from a given source, like this.
Alternatively, number your citations and place hyperlinks at the end of a given sentence in the order that they first appeared in your article, like this [1], [2].
If you are referencing a textbook, or other source that you did not find online, you can include a link to its page on the Lakehead library website, or, if there is none, a link to purchase it online.
For more examples, please reference any of our editions on the website.
Word Limit
The minimum word count is 500 words, and the suggested maximum is 1500 words. While we do not want to limit any enthusiasm, our rationale is that if your piece is >1500 words, splitting it into multiple, individual pieces may improve the focus of each submission.
Tables and Figures
The use of tables and figures is encouraged. If you are adapting a table or figure from elsewhere, please make reference to that.
AI Usage
Writing for Eye on Science is an opportunity to showcase your ability to find, synthesize, and communicate scientific content effectively. To maintain the integrity of this publication, the use of AI throughout the writing process is generally discouraged.
